Gloves for Sanitary Use

Gloves are used in a hospital to keep from spreading germs.  The hospital ensures a sanitary environment by limiting patient’s exposure to infectious matter, thus the staff is required to wear gloves when providing patient care.

The hospital is a place where health care is provided for patients using specialized staff and equipment.  Sometimes the hospital provides long term patient stays as well as short term.

With so many people living in one building, the staff has to keep the environment as sanitary as possible by wearing medical gloves.  There is a large variety of medical gloves on the web.  Do some research to find out what is the right glove for the job.

Adult Diapers

Home

Adult diapers are worn due to the loss of control of either bladder or bowel and in some cases loss of both bowel and bladder.  There are many different types of adult diapers depending on the severity of incontinence.  Listed below are different reasons for needing to wear adult diapers.

  1. Urge incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine associated with a sudden need to urinate and or a sudden urge to urinate. Many causes include neurologic disorders (such as stroke, multiple sclerosis), urinary tract infections, and cancer.
  2. As once stated in a CNN special, stress incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine during coughing, sneezing, laughing, or other increases in intra-abdominal pressure. This is most commonly seen in women after middle age, especially following multiple pregnancies.
  3. Overflow incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine associated with the bladder being too full. A person may have frequent dribbling or stress incontinence.  Overflow may be attributable to an underactive bladder, bladder outlet obstruction, drugs, fecal impaction, diabetic neuropathy, or vitamin B12 deficiency.
  4. Functional incontinence is related to limited immobility such as cognitive deficits, paraplegia, or poor bladder compliance.  The bladder does not have the ability to function normally.
  5. Enuresis is the involuntary loss of urine during sleep. The primary cause of enuresis relates to the inability to maintain urinary control from infancy. Despite past explanations, it is now believed to only rarely be attributed to psychological problems in children. Secondary enuresis is a relapse after bladder control has been achieved.
  6. Urine Retention is when a large amount of urine stays in the bladder after a person has urinated. This build-up of urine can put a person to be at an increased risk for urinary tract infections and overflow incontinence.
  7. There are two basic types of bowel incontinence:
    • The first being passive fecal incontinence, it is a poorly functioning sphincter muscle. This person  is unaware that stool is being passed. Do a search on MSN
    • Urge incontinence is often caused by disease in the rectum. This person experiences ininvoluntary passages of stool through normal sphincter muscles.

Diapers

Cloth diapers are available in several types of cotton fabrics and are made up into somewhat different types or forms of diaper.

TERRY CLOTH

 Terry cloth is a looped cotton fabric that provides a thick, luxurious comfortable feeling. Terry cloth diapers are super-absorbent and quickly absorb the urine. The softness and comfort is very nice, but the terry cloth diapers are bulky, making them only practical  as a night diaper worn only to bed.

BIRDSEYE

Birdseye is a staple diaper fabric that has been around for generations. The material can be found in fabric stores where it sells by the yard as “diaper cloth”. Birdseye is described as a “diamond” weave. When you closely examine the fabric, you will see the woven surface forms tight little diamonds and the cloth is durable with  good pinning strength and it makes a good utilitarian diaper. Birdseye is one of the most common diaper fabrics just like the flannel. .

GAUZE

Gauze is another diaper fabric now commonly found only in baby diapers. It has a straight square weave, and when held up to the light, you can just about see through it. The cotton threads run straight up and down and side to side like screening in windows and doors. The square loose weave creates soft, cushiony diapers with easy washing, as the soap and water can flow through the fabric for easy cleaning.

FLANNEL

Flannel is a good diaper material too. It has the character of a napped or fleece-like surface, soft to the touch but dense,  not springy like terry cloth. The characteristic of density leads to the criticism by flannel opponents that it is hard to get these diapers clean. Flannel lovers feel a person can get great absorbency with the least bulk with flannel!

FLAT DIAPERS

( pin-on and requires folding)

Folding diapers for our parents had more to do with getting them ready to pin on  the baby.  The diapers were folded and put away ready to be pinned on the child. . The absorbency was gained by folding with multiple layers. That thin layer  becomes many, many layers when folded and ready to pin on.

PREFOLDS

Prefold diapers are the most common style for pinning on a baby. There is no folding. Prefolds are just the flat diapers all folded to size, with soaker strips stitched down the center. This strip is made of various materials of absorbency.

   Size and weight have everything to do with fit and comfort. Before purchasing a cloth diaper the user needs to study up on fitting and pinning. After figuring out what works for you and what is comfortable, then a large quantity can be purchased.

Wall Mirrors

Tips for hanging Wall Mirrors

Items needed for hanging a wall mirror:

* Pencil
* Hammer and picture hook
* Level
* Stud finder (optional)
* Tape measure

Hanging a mirror doesn’t have to be a frustrating activity. You can simplify the process by using hanging hardware, or look for a mirror-hanging kit at a hardware store. The mirror’s weight will determine what kind of hardware you’ll need. Check with your local hardware store for hooks or specialized drywall hangers rated for the weight of your mirror.

Heavy mirrors are most secure when mounted to wall studs — the wooden 2×4 or 2×6 pieces of wood inside the frame of a wall. Locate your wall studs by rapping on the wall with your knuckle until you hear a solid sound, which should be the stud. Studs are typically (but not always) placed 16 or 24 inches apart. You can also use an electronic stud finder that beeps or flashes when it passes over wall studs. These can be found at most hardware stores.

Use two hooks for wide or heavy mirrors; this should distribute the weight evenly. Before you position the hooks, find the wall studs that will anchor the mirror and check to make sure the mirror hangs straight by placing a level on the top of the frame as you hold it against the wall.

As they say at www.hgtv.com, next, hammer the hook into the wall. Don’t use adhesive hangers, especially in humid areas. The best hangers can be attached to the wall by driving a nail in at an angle. The hooks should be hammered into the center of the stud. If you’re able to pull the mirror away from the wall, it is not hung securely.
